Motorcycles and scooters
Driving license category A2 is the second level of a motorcycle driver's licence. This allows you to drive mopeds and small motorcycles up to 50cc. This class lets you gradually increase the power of your vehicle and to fantasize about larger engines. The test is more difficult and requires more theory.
The category A2 driving licence is valid until you reach the age of 24. It can be used together with the category A1 car driving licence or as of a provisional driver's licence. If you're older than 24 years old, however you must have the full category B driving licence is required to drive motorcycles that have a maximum power of 35 kW.
You can obtain a group A1 driving license at the age of 16 (in Denmark and Malta, 15; in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland,
Ile Kosztuje Prawo Jazdy Am Slovakia and Slovenia 14). Once you reach the age of 16 you'll need to pass the A2 category motorbike test. You must pass the test before turning 18. After two years, you are able to move to category A.
After passing the test in the category A2 you can drive a motorcycle with or without sidecar and three-wheeled vehicles with a power range of up to 35 kW. The vehicles must also have a power/weight ratio of no more than 0.2 kW/kg and cannot be made from a vehicle with twice the power of the maximum.
If you have passed the two-part examination for a moped or motorcycle of a lower category from the 1st July 1996, you are able to bypass the theory test and take only the practical test. You can ride a smaller moped or scooter equipped with L plates or you can get the new AM licence which will enable you to ride 50cc motorcycles with a top speed of 45mph. The AM licence will only be valid if you have taken the test in your theory and have completed nine hours of instruction divided into theory and practical instruction at an instructor at a driving school.
Four-wheeled vehicles
This category covers all motor vehicles with four wheels that are not buses or passenger cars. This category also includes utility vehicles such as pickups vans, panels and pickups. Motorhomes, campers, and lorries are also covered. This category can also include vehicles like ambulances, hearses and carryalls, which are designed to transport more than eight persons or have a maximum permissible mass of more than 750kg. A1 drivers can drive such vehicles with a trailer weighing up to 775kg.
To drive a vehicle of this class, you have to have passed the theory test. To do this, you have to attend 12 lessons of 90 minutes of the fundamental material, and 4 additional lessons lasting 90 minutes for the add-on (category A2). The theoretical tests are a pass mark of 70%..
If you pass the theory test, you'll have to do a practical driving test on private land and on public roads. After passing both tests, you will receive an application for your driving license. You must present this request to the local authority within three years of passing your practical test.
After passing your driving test, it is possible to begin driving vehicles that fall under the category A2. In some countries, if you hold an A1 license for two years, there is no requirement to take an additional test to get an A2 driving licence which permits you to operate motorcycles that have a maximum power of 35 kW. This allows you to get familiar with smaller two-wheelers before moving to more powerful machines.
If you are a holder of a category A2 driving licence you can also ride a tricycle provided it has the capacity of cylinders up to 125cc, and a power output of no more than 11 kW. This category was earlier part of the A licence. All drivers who were issued a full category B licence before 19 January 2013 were able to ride mopeds as well and continue to enjoy this privilege.
Motor vehicles with five or more wheels
This category comprises vehicles with motors designed to be used on the road to transport goods or passengers. These vehicles must include at least two or three wheels that are in contact with ground and a driver's seat or saddle and a motor that is able to reach speeds of 20 miles per hour or more. They are typically equipped with a steering wheel as well as brakes. These vehicles can also be steered, and driven in reverse. In some instances, these vehicles have an hood or some other cover that can be opened. In the past, this term has been applied to trucks (van mini-vans, mini-vans, panel, pickup, sport utility) and busses that carry 16 or more passengers. A slightly different definition is employed by an additional federal requirement that regulates uniform licensing requirements for commercial vehicle drivers. This definition excludes vehicles rated at 26,001 pounds or more.
The category A2 driving licence can also be used to drive a motorized cycle, moped or motorcycle. This type of driving license is only valid for motors that have an cylinder capacity of 125 cubic centimeters, or a maximum power of 15 kilowatts. This license is also valid to drive motor tricycles. This license class requires a minimum age of 16 years. Physically disabled people could also be able to drive motor tricycles that fall in category A1 or A.

A driver's operator license allows them to tow trailers that weigh up to 750kg MAM. They are also able to haul a trailer that weighs up to 3,500kg using a tractor, or construction equipment.
NHTSA must ensure that its guidelines remain up-to-date, as the designs of various types of three-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles continue to change. Manufacturers importers, manufacturers, and import specialists often seek agency interpretations of the proper classification of their vehicles. NHTSA created a set guidelines that will help in the classification process. These guidelines include:
Motor vehicles with trailers
Category A2 includes motor vehicles that have trailers. These are not vehicles pulled by the driver, but rather are towed behind larger vehicles, such as cars. For example, a tractor pulling trailers falls under this category, as well as small trucks specifically designed to carry loads, such as those employed by plumbers or painters to transport tools and equipment to a work site. The maximum mass that can be authorized (MAM) for this class is 8,250kg.
To drive a vehicle in this class you must have passed the theory test for category A1 or have obtained a driving license by direct entry. Depending on the type of vehicle you're interested in, you may need to pass a practical test prior to being able to drive it.
The license you are granted for Category A2 is valid for three years at the time you pass your theory test. You must renew it prior to the expiry date to keep it in force.
In addition to the categories mentioned above, you may also obtain a license to drive other vehicles that have special requirements. You will require a licence to drive a big vehicle (category C) that requires you to know the regulations for transporting dangerous goods.
