Driving License Category A2
The category A2 driving licence allows you to drive motorcycles without a sidecar, with a an engine power up to 35 kW. The power/weight ratio of the motorcycle must not exceed 0.2 kW/kg.
This driving licence is designed to permit you to get your motorcycle driving licence early, and then move on to the A2 licence with more engine power.
Scooters and motorcycles
Driving license category A2 is the next level of a motorcycle driver's licence. It allows you to drive small motorcycles (up to 50cc) and mopeds with a maximum capacity of 125cc. The goal of the class is to allow you to gradually climb the ladder of engine power and cautiously fantasize about an even bigger one. The test is slightly more difficult than the first category, and you will need to attend more theory lessons for it.
The category A2 driver's license is valid up to the age of 24. It can be used in conjunction alongside a car driving licence category A1 or as a part of a provisional category B driver's license. If you are over 24 years old, however the full category B driving licence is required to operate motorcycles that exceed 35 kW.
You can obtain a group A1 driving license at the age of 16 (in Denmark and Malta, 15 and in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia,

After passing the test in the category A2 you are allowed to drive a motorbike with or without a sidecar, and vehicles on three wheels with a power range of up to 35 kW. These vehicles must have a weight/power that is not greater than 0.02 kW/kg, and cannot be directly derived from a vehicle that has twice the power.
If you have passed a two-part moped or motorcycle test in a lower category since 1st July 1996, then you are able to skip the theory test and only take the practical test. You can ride a small moped or scooter that has L plates, or take the new AM licence that allows you to ride up to 50cc bikes with a maximum speed of 45mph. The AM licence is only valid if you have taken your theory test and attended nine hours of instruction divided into practical and theory lessons at driving schools.
Vehicles with four wheels
This category covers all motorized vehicles with four wheels, with the exception of passenger cars and buses. It also includes utilitarian vehicles like vans, pickups and panels. Also included are motor homes, campers and trucks. This category also includes vehicles such as ambulances, hearses and carryalls designed to transport eight or more people or have a maximum mass of 750kg or greater. Drivers who have obtained an A1 licence are permitted to operate vehicles of this kind with trailers that have the maximum authorized mass of up to 775kg.
You must have passed the theory test to be able drive a vehicle in this category. To pass you need to take 12 lessons for 90 minutes of the basic material, and 4 additional lessons of 90 minutes for the additional (category A2). The theory tests have a passing score of 70%..
After passing the theory test you will have to take a road test test on public and private roads. Once you have passed both of these, you will receive a request for a driving license. The request for a license must be submitted to the local authority within three years after passing the practical test.
After you pass your driving test, it's possible to drive vehicles that fall under the category A2. In certain countries, after holding an A1 license for two years, there's no need to take a separate test to obtain a category A2 driving licence that permits you to operate motorcycles that have a maximum power of 35 kW. This permits you to get familiar with less powerful two-wheelers prior to upgrading to more powerful machines.
If you are a holder of a category A2 driving licence you are also able to drive tricycles if it has the capacity of cylinders up to 125cc and an output of no more than 11kW. This category was earlier part of the A licence. Drivers who had a full category A licence prior to the 19th January 2013 were allowed to use mopeds, and they were able to keep the right.
Motor vehicles with 5 or more wheels
This category includes vehicles equipped with motors that are specifically designed to be used on roads for the transportation of goods or passengers. These vehicles should have at least 2 or 3 wheels that are in contact with the ground and a driver's seat or saddle, and a motor that is able to reach speeds of 20 miles an hour or more. These vehicles are usually equipped with a steering wheel as well as brakes. They also have the capability to be controlled in a normal direction and can also travel in reverse. In certain instances, the hood of these vehicles may be opened. This classification was previously used for trucks (vans minivans, minivans, panel, pickups and sport utility vehicles) and buses that can carry at least 16 passengers. A slightly different definition is employed by a separate federal requirement that sets uniform licensing requirements for drivers of commercial vehicles. This definition excludes vehicles with a weight of 26,001 pounds gross weight or more.
Additionally, the category A2 driving license can be used to drive a moped, motor-driven bicycle, or motorcycle. This type of license is only valid if the volume of the cylinder and power of the motor are not greater than 125 cubic centimeters and 15 Kilowatts, respectively. It can also be used to drive a

Some people choose to get an operator's license. This is applicable to vehicles with up to 8 passenger seats and a maximum weight of 3,500kg. Driver's licenses allow them to tow trailers of up to 750kg MAM. They can also tow a trailer up to 3,500kg using a tractor or construction equipment.
As the designs of different types of three-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles continue to evolve, it's crucial that NHTSA keep its guidelines up to up-to-date. Manufacturers importers, manufacturers, and import specialists often request agency interpretations of the proper classification of their vehicles. NHTSA developed a set of guidelines to guide the classification. These guidelines include:
Motor vehicles with trailers
The category A2 includes motorized vehicles with trailers. These are not driven by drivers, but are pulled by larger vehicles such as cars. This category includes, for instance, a tractor towing trailers, or small trucks that are designed to carry loads, like those used by plumbers or painters to transport tools and supplies to the work site. The maximum allowed mass (MAM) for this category is 8,250kg.
To drive vehicles in this category you must have passed the theory test for category A1 or have obtained a driving licence by direct entry. Depending on the type of vehicle you're interested in, you might have to pass a test of practical test before you can drive it.
The license you are granted for Category A2 is valid for three years, starting on the day you successfully pass your theory exam. To keep it valid, you must renew it before the expiration date.
In addition to the categories mentioned above, you can be granted a driving license for other vehicles that meet certain requirements. For instance, you require an exclusive license to drive a large goods vehicle, which is classed as category C. This requires a knowledge of special regulations that govern the transportation of hazardous items.
The code 96 is added to your category B of your driving licence after you have passed both the theory and practical test, but your vehicle and trailer aren't eligible for a category C license. The code 96 will be added to your driving license category B if you have passed both the theory and practical tests, but your trailer or vehicle do not meet the requirements for a Category C licence.
To drive such a vehicle, you must have held a driving license in category B for at least two years, and pass a theory test and practical test for this category. You should also have taken an exclusive course and received additional training to be able to drive this. This is referred to as a driver's education course.
